HEART GEOMETRY PUZZLE - A little math and a little art
This heart puzzle is a simple STEAM project that teaches the concepts of math, engineering and art/design. But not only that, it is a boredom buster brain teaser that will make your kids smarter! :)
What you need:
- Scissors
- Paper, in any color. Card stock is recommended, but not required (we used 3 sheets of paper)
- Equilateral triangle template or protractor (My 11 year old used a 2" triangle template that we printed.)
Steps:
1. Print out a template (I provided a template on my website here), or for a challenge, draw the equilateral triangles using a protractor. Note: You only need one triangle from the template, but incase of mistakes or if you want to recruit helpers there are plenty to go around. ;-)
2. Cut one triangle to start and then use it as a template to trace the remaining triangles. 22 triangles total needed.
3. Solve the geometry puzzle by arranging the 22 pieces into a heart shape. (see the end of this post for a graph of the solution if you need help.)
To make it into a fun game, have your friends and family try putting it together and time them to see who can put it together fastest.
